#Changevermont
Please take a look at the Vermont Racial Justice Alliance 2019 Legislative Solutions.  We’ve got a lot to get done so lets get at it!  We understand now more than ever the need to address systemic and overt racism in the United States and throughout Vermont. Just like always, we’ll help you get involved in all of this work as we move through the legislative session. We’ll also update you on community events to enable us to partner where the real work is being done.  It is time to change Vermont. We’re leading with #EndslaveryVT!

Proposal 2 is in Senate Government Operations

#EndslaveryVT
The proposal to amend to the constitution; eliminating slavery is Proposal 2 and is currently in Senate Government Operations Committee.  Unfortunately, the Senate removed most of the historical and contextual language of the (already compromised) proposal that was submitted. Ask Senate Government Operations to take up Proposal 2, the proposal to amend to the constitution, eliminating slavery.

NO Taxation and Regulation Without Reparations Campaign
We call for automatic, no cost expungement of marijuana related criminal records; immediate release of those incarcerated for marijuana related crimes; exclusion of marijuana related crimes as impediments for employment and access to public services; training and start-up assistance in hemp and cannabis industry for those impacted; access to land ownership and the appointment of a Reparations Commission to study and consider a state apology and reparations for slavery.

making money out of prisnors

Black people in Vermont  continue to be represented at critically disproportionate rates in prisons.  The majority of these folks are serving time for nonviolent, low quantity drug infractions (such as marijuana). We believe it to be morally wrong to profit from marijuana until the score is settled on this heinous crime against humanity.  This is far more than a matter of addressing the criminal justice system because many people have lost everything as a result of direct and indirect consequences associated with the “War on Drugs.”  This is a Human Rights issue! Sign the petition hereDonate to the support marijuana reparations here.

Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement
Please don’t forget about the Campaign for Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement. We started calling for civilian oversight two elections ago and things have only gotten worse.  Why are progressive Vermonters remaining silent on this issue? For far too long we have been duped with the suggestion that civilian oversight is anti-police.  Accountability and public safety (for all) can coexist.  It’s called constitutional policing.  Please do your part to ensure that public safety means everyone!

No transparency, no trust.
No trust, no cooperation.
No cooperation, no safety.
No safety, no justice…

No justice, no peace!
