RACE TRAFFIC STOP DATA DASHBOARD
*Released November 12, 2019
20 V.S.A. § 2366 requires all law enforcement agencies is collect traffic stop data. The data collected by the 79 agencies, incomplete, inconsistent and therefore failing to satisfy the essence of the purpose of the law can be found at the website of an organization contracted by the the Department of Public Safety, the Crime Research Group. The purpose of the data collection was to address what we know to be systemic racism. The original intent of race data collection was clearly to provide the community the ability to measure progress while holding law enforcement accountable. The current process makes it virtually impossible to do so. For this reason, we have developed the first Statewide Race Traffic Stop Data Dashboard (DTSD 1.0) through a grass roots effort. This enables community to view the progress all 79 agencies in a user-friendly manner.
